THINK AHEAD

showtime.

News and premieres from exhibitions, salons and shows. Volkswagen impressed on several fronts in Paris – with the XL Sport concept car, the Passat GTE with plug-in hybrid, and the Polo GTI and Golf Alltrack.

XL Sport – the future of fast driving.

At the Paris Motor Show, with the world premiere of the highly efficient concept sports car XL Sport, Volkswagen impressively demonstrated how high-tech developments can lead to cross-brand synergies. The XL concept car combines impressive aerodynamic design – based on the XL1, the world’s most efficient automobile – with the power of the new Ducati 1199 Superleggera, the world’s most dynamic two-cylinder motorbike. The result: a 270-km/h driving machine that is the first of its kind. The rear engine of the XL Sport catapults the sports car from zero to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds and provides a torque of 11,000 revs.

200 hp

or 147 kW is the technical highlight of the XL Sport, thanks to the modified V2 engine of the Ducati 1199 Superleggera with its 7-gear dual-clutch transmission.

5,7

seconds – the time it takes the concept sports car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, partly thanks to aerodynamic innovations such as air curtains, wheel arch vents and a lift-reducing diffuser.

Interior With a sporty interior: the interior of the XL Sport is strongly influenced by race
car design.

Gullwing doors as on the XL1 allow the doors of the XL Sport to open upwards.

320 Nm

is the maximum torque of the new Polo GTI. As an alternative to the DSG 7-gear dual-clutch transmission, for the first time there is now a model with a manual 6-gear transmission.

Even more impressive –
the new Polo GTI.

30 years of constructing high performance sports Polos. At 141 kW (192 hp), the new 1.8-litre TSI engine is much more powerful than its predecessor. It accelerates from zero to 100 km/h 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds and can achieve speeds of up to 146 mph. The unique bumpers, red GTI insignia and striking side skirts emphasise the vehicle’s sporty character, as do the sports steering wheel and sporty seats on the interior, inspired by the the larger Golf GTI. The optional Sport Select chassis (adjustable shock absorbers) with Sport Performance Kit (sport setting with the push of a button) offers a driving experience that is sportier than ever.

Includes an off-road interior. The sporty character is emphasised by details such as a leather steering wheel and gearshift.

The Golf Alltrack is an amazing all-terrain vehicle .

With the Golf Alltrack, Volkswagen has created a technical and visual combination of urban car and SUV with a striking off-road image. Independent design, 4MOTION 4-wheel drive that comes as standard, offroad driving profile, and up to 15 mm more chassis clearance add the perfect off-road features for this vehicle, which is available in three engines options. The versatile Golf Alltrack features the variable bodywork of the Estate and is Volkswagen’s 12th new Golf version in 24 months including European editions.

GTE: Passat goes
plug-in hybrid.

For the first time, the Passat GTE, with a combination of TSI engine and E engine, was exhibited in Paris. In “electric mode” it can drive up to 31 miles using just electricity, so without emissions. Its mix of combustion and electric engine enables a performance of 160 kW (218 hp) with a range of more than 600 miles. Maximum torque is 400 Nm, with a consumption of 2.0 l/100 km and 13.0 kWh/100 km, which corresponds to less than 45 g/km CO2. The Passat GTE will be available as an Estate and a Saloon car.
